New to Padel?
Don’t worry, we got you!
The Basics
-
The Court – You’ll play in doubles on an enclosed court. The walls are in play, just like squash.
-
Scoring – Same as tennis: 15, 30, 40, game. Best of 3 sets is common.
-
Serving – Underarm only. The ball must bounce once behind the service line, then you hit it below waist height into the diagonal service box. It has to land in the box – hitting the fence on the fly is out.
-
During Play – The ball can bounce once on the ground, then it can hit the glass wall or the wire fence and still be in.
-
Winning a Point – Just like tennis: if the ball bounces twice, hits the net and doesn’t go over, or goes straight into the walls/fence without touching the ground first, the point is over.
Padel Meet ups –
Head to your local padel court and join one of our ‘padel meet-ups’ to find other players new to the sport.
Coaching Tips
-
Short swings – The less you do the better. Keep the swings short on all your shots and there’s less that can go wrong.
-
Stay ready – Always on your toes, short steps, so you can move quickly.
-
Use the walls – Let the ball come off the glass, it gives you more time.
-
Keep it simple – Aim for consistency, not power. Long rallies are where padel really shines.
-
Have fun – Padel’s about energy, teamwork, and enjoyment. Win or lose, you’ll leave with a smile.
